Grootan Foundations

Build on AWS, and keep it dependable long after launch

Grootan engineers design your AWS architecture, move workloads onto it and, if you want, look after it for you once it is live.

AWS Architecture and Cloud Readiness Review

We find out if your applications can move yet, or how sound your current AWS environment is, and rank what to fix by how risky it is and how much work it takes.

Use cases

Where it helps

Ready to leave the data centre

Moving off on-premises or hosted servers goes best in stages. Grootan lays out the order and runs the migration to AWS.

An AWS estate that outgrew its plan

Environments no longer match, the bill is hard to read and nobody can describe the whole setup. A review comes first, then we tidy it up.

Applications stuck in the past

Where it is worth it, we shift older applications onto managed databases, containers or serverless functions.

Containers in production

Your teams need somewhere dependable to deploy. Grootan builds that Kubernetes platform and can operate it too.

Costs nobody can account for

Spend climbs faster than traffic, and no team knows its share. We track down the waste and cut it.

Releases that still need hands

Deployments rely on manual steps and servers are configured one at a time. With pipelines and infrastructure defined as code, those steps run on their own.

Operations off your team's desk

You'd like the cloud to keep running without pulling in your engineers. Grootan takes care of support, updates and monitoring.

Not sure which of these fits? We'll work it out with you on a first call.

Process

How we work

  1. 01

    First conversation

You tell us what runs where, what limits you are working within and where you want to get to.

  2. 02

    Review

Whether you are planning a move or improving what you run, the outcome is a plan that says what to do first, what each item takes and where the risks are.

  3. 03

    Deliver in stages

Nothing goes live untested, and every change has a plan for rolling it back. That holds for building, migrating and modernising alike, one step at a time.

  4. 04

    Look after it

Grootan can stay on after go-live to operate the environment, watch over it and make it better over time.

FAQ

Questions we hear

When could we be fully on AWS?

You'll have dates once the assessment is done, set out step by step in the plan. What drives them is how many applications you run and how much they lean on each other.

Is Kubernetes the right choice for us?

If you run a handful of applications, probably not: serverless or AWS managed services will usually be easier to live with and cheaper. A large number of services shipping frequently is where Kubernetes repays the effort. We'll recommend whichever fits.

If you run our cloud, what do we get?

Day to day, your engineers no longer handle alerts, patching, incidents or support questions, because we do. Performance and spend also get reviewed with you at regular intervals, and the scope is whatever we agree.

How much will AWS itself charge us?

You'll get an estimate from the assessment. The real number depends on your workloads, since AWS bills for usage, and if we run the environment afterwards we watch that usage and resize resources to fit.

We already have AWS accounts. Can Grootan step in?

Yes. You end up with an agreed split: what we change, what we run and what stays with you. We get there by first studying your costs, your network, and the accounts and workloads you run.
